utopienale IV / Dana László da Costa – Ibirapitanga

In her artistic practice, Dana László da Costa explores cultural memory and the importance of environmental conservation through the use of natural dyes that she extracts from indigenous plants. Through this ancient technique of natural dyeing, she deconstructs colonial narratives and connects the historical relationships between Europe and Latin America by focusing on the trade and migration routes that have shaped these regions.

Her inspiration comes from personal experiences in the natural environment of Brazil, where she grew up.

By applying natural dyes to her work, she transmits not only the colors, but also the essence, memory and meaning of the plants. By mixing species from different biomes, she creates a new symbolic cartography that celebrates the botanical heritage of Latin America and emphasizes the urgency of preserving the environment.

Dana’s works immortalize the ephemeral power of plants that, with their depth and cultural exuberance, inspire reflection on the links between nature, history and identity.
